Tattoos and Scars

I live in a time when women tattoo.
No longer is the practice taboo.
But alluring as these icons are
I still prefer an old fashion scar
The scar, you see, is far more enduring.
Tattoos are temporal, just snap shots in time
A scar defines transcendence in her life line.
Tattoos only tell us who they think they are
But the scar will define what they are.
Tattoos are painted to be seen
A scar is a secret to be gleaned
Tattoos are just wounds on virgin flesh
A scar is beauty healed in ways that put her apart from the rest.
Tattoos are just images she will freely share
you can see them on the street everywhere.
A scar is only shown to those dare
to look beyond her feminine flair,
to see deeper than just dyed skin
and notice the person that dwells with in.
Show me a woman with a scar long and deep
This is the spirit with whose company I wish to keep.
